![]() ![]() For every squadron, group, and wing in the Air Force, and most centers and NAFs, your first and only contact for emblems is your wing/center/NAF historian. Not by arguing with the folks implementing the rules as they currently exist. If you and your leadership think the emblem rules don't serve the needs of the Air Force, you can address that through the chain of command. Air Force emblem policy belongs to the Air Force's senior uniformed leadership, and has accumulated over the last 71 years, based on systems and rules inherited from the Army. If you've done it in the past, expect to get shut out starting immediately. ![]() Nobody is allowed to go VFR direct to TIOH anymore. They just execute fee-for-service projects for the Air Force. They don't approve or disapprove anything. TIOH does the artwork, under an executive order dating back to 1954, but doesn't set policy for the Air Force. They keep the official record, including all the relevant memos and artwork. If you think you know what your unit emblem is supposed to look like better than MAJCOM or AFHRA does, you don't. ![]() There is as little subjectivity in the regulations as possible, but there has to be subjectivity somewhere. The responsible office is at the Air Force Historical Research Agency, but they only apply the rules as written. Unit emblems have to be approved and recorded by the Air Force. But if they seem unnecessarily complicated, remember that somebody would have to answer to Congress and the media if it turned out that a wing bought 20,000 patches from Russia, China, or a company owned by Donald Trump's third cousin. The contracting process for buying patches is wrapped up into the various legal and procurement rules for uniforms, and I don't know anything about all that. Patches are uniform items, and will be handled through MAJCOM A1 channels. The emblem is the artwork, and is handled through wing & MAJCOM history channels. Emblems and patches are different things. I'd love to explain what the OCP patch process will be in the future, but it keeps changing every 4 hours, so I can't tell you anything useful. There's a little misinformation in this thread. ![]()
